The Court denied the permission to organize a tournament in the city of Eilat, in the South of the country, understanding that the jurisdiction does not allow to determine if the game is legal or not, and considering that it must be decided by legislators.
Poker players tried to demonstrate before the Supreme Court that it is not a game of chance, so they presented a studio from Professor Ehud Lehrer, from the School of Mathematics of the University of Tel Aviv, which supports the idea that luck is not enough to win in a poker table.
Players consider that the well-known card game must not be ruled by Israel betting law (1977), which forbids the existence of all games of chance and bets, except the National Lottery, and those authorized by the Commission of Sportsbooks of Israel.
