The EA Sports Madden NFL 19 video game players from across the country will be competing next to the Rivers Sportsbook lounge on July 20. The tournament, organized by Compete4ever, will feature the top four players from the national online qualifier that will take place on July 8 and 9. The new sportsbook area within the casino is expected to open before the NFL season starts in September.

ivers Casino & Resort Schenectady (New York) will be hosting the Electric City Classic, a single-elimination Madden NFL eSports tournament featuring players from across the country and potentially the Capital District.

The EA Sports Madden NFL 19 video game players from across the country will be squaring-off on the virtual gridiron at Van Slyck’s, next to the Rivers Sportsbook lounge, on July 20. The tournament, organized by Compete4ever, will feature the top four players from the national online qualifier that will take place on July 8 and 9.

Former Packers “Hall of Fame” running back, Ahman Green, and former Jets and Ravens “All-Pro” linebacker, Bart Scott, will join the voice of Madden Football and famed sportscaster, Larry Ridley in the booth for play-by-play action from Rivers Casino as they broadcast live online on Twitch.TV. Ahman, Bart and Larry will be available for a guest meet-and-greet. A Madden NFL gaming station will be set up near the broadcast booth for fans to play the game during the event.

“Rivers Casino is absolutely ecstatic to be working with Compete4ever to bring such an exciting, and nationally recognized, eSports event to the Capital Region,” said Justin Moore, Rivers Casino acting General Manager. “Casino guests will be able to enjoy the fusion of traditional sports and eSports right here in the Capital Region as they watch the tournament and have an opportunity to meet former NFL players.”

Capital Region gamers are encouraged to register and test their Madden NFL skills against online competitors from across the country. Gamers can register online for the Competer4ever (C4) Madden 19 “Electric City Classic.”

The online qualifiers for XBOX ONE will be held on Monday, July 8; players can register until Sunday night, July 7. The online qualifiers for the PS4 bracket will be held on Tuesday, July 9. The top two finalists of each bracket will earn a spot in the tournament and play at Rivers Casino on Saturday, July 20.

The event is free and open to the public. People aged 21 years or older are allowed to participate in the competition or to enter Rivers Casino.

In May, Rivers Casino started building its new sportsbook in Schenectady. It is expected to be completed this summer on the area within the casino, called the "Rivers Sportsbook." The lounge will open before this fall's NFL season in September, pending New York State Gaming Commission approval.
