A compact amendment with a 16th tribe could reach Governor Jay Inslee's desk this week. They still need approval from the U.S. Department of the Interior, which has 45 days to act.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced that compact amendments were signed with 15 Washington tribes, which desire to start taking bets by the start of the NFL season. These include the Tulalip Tribes and the Stillguamish.

Each tribe leader will sign their amendment and send it back to the secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior for review and listing in the Federal Register.

Although, as compact amendments are not final, sports and wagering can not begin until they are published by the agency, which has 45 days to act. If it fails to do so, then it will be considered approved.

Last year, Washington passed a sports wagering law which allows betting on professional, collegiate, international and Olympic level, as well as eSports.

These compact amendments are intended to enable the placing of bets in a sports book environment and kiosks on a gaming floor. This includes online betting from a personal account created by the player.

Wagers will also be allowed to be taken elsewhere on the premises of casino properties, which means that the options are extended into hotels, conference rooms and entertainment spaces related to the casino. However, golf courses and convenience stores that are not part of the casino will not comprise this agreement.
