Jamaican gambling regulator the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) has confirmed to the Jamaican-Gleaner that it is currently exploring options for regulating Internet gambling in Jamaica.

In a statement Monday the regulator noted the growing popularity of online and mobile gambling worldwide, and confirmed it is conducting a thorough examination and analysis of regulatory regimes in other jurisdictions and expects to formulate a position for review by the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service in the coming financial year.

“One of the fastest-growing offshoots of Internet gambling globally is fantasy/virtual sports betting. It is especially popular in the United States, India and China, with recorded annual sales in the high billions,” the BGLC observed.

“Internet gambling and the fantasy/virtual sports betting phenomenon, which is quickly gaining interest in Jamaica, will be explored in detail during the BGLC’s upcoming Gaming Industry Summit on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Jamaica Conference Centre, beginning at 8:30 a.m.”
