A scheme for the South Denes site was first unveiled 10 years ago and now the public are being invited to view a new and revised version of the project, which is still called The Edge.

The information day is being Monday from noon until 7pm at Merlin’s Sports Bar, Apsley Road.

The 2007 scheme for a £35m casino leisure complex provided for a 180-room hotel, 10-screen cinema, 22-lane bowling alley and a combination of restaurant and bars as well as a casino run by leading casino operator Aspers.

Pleasure Beach boss Albert Jones is looking for public backing for the development, once touted as a catalyst for further investment and said he was close to submitting a planning application.

Mr Jones admitted securing partners had not been easy, but that while the project had seemed to go on the back burner a lot of work had been going on behind the scenes.

He stressed that anyone interested would have to wait until the information day on Monday.

Some negotiations were covered by confidentiality agreements, he added, and everything was being done to ensure it all went to plan.

Phase one, which will be laid out in a series of images and information panels, was commercially realistic, he said.

Development consultant Karen Hawes who helped to bring forward the earlier scheme will be among experts on hand to discuss the plans with residents and neighbours.

She said: “We just want people to come along and have a look at what we are doing.”

She added that the team behind the plans had been working hard to make sure they remained “low key.”

A statement from Albert Jones said: “Thank you to all that have shown their support so far for the development. We will shortly be submitting a planning application for the revised scheme and would like to share our latest plans with our neighbours and Great Yarmouth residents in advance.

“This event will give you an opportunity to view the plans, ask questions and submit comments.”
