William Hill sportsbook at Tropicana Evansville opens today

Tropicana Evansville, which is owned by Eldorado Resorts, announced via twitter that the William Hill Sports Book will open at 11 a.m. today, September 12. It will be located in the area of the property formerly known as 421, just off the casino floor.

The sports betting operation will be the first of its kind in Evansville, and it follows the General Assembly's vote earlier this year to legalize sports betting in Indiana.

Indiana became the 12th US state to allow legal sports wagers on September 1, with Gov. Eric Holcomb placing a bet at Caesars’ Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville.

According to Tropicana, the state-of-the-art sportsbook will feature a 16-by-9 feet video wall, ten 65-inch viewing monitors, and 12 odds boards, which will provide sports fans with comfortable places to watch sports with friends and bet on games.

The sportsbook will also offer guests and bettors access to William Hill’s mobile app, kiosks, and InPlay wagering menu while they enjoy the casino’s world-class restaurants and entertainment.

As reported by Courier and Press, eight locations are already taking bets in Indiana at their retail sportsbooks as of Sept. 11. Those locations are:

• Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville
• Ameristar Casino in East Chicago
• Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg
• Winner's Circle in Downtown Indianapolis
• Horseshoe Hammond Casino
• Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City
• French Lick Casino in French Lick
• Belterra Casino in Florence

Five additional locations are authorized to begin taking sports bets at later dates:

• Winner's Circle in Clarksville: Sept. 12
• Horseshoe Southern Casino in Elizabeth: Sept. 12
• Tropicana Evansville casino: Sept. 12
• Harrah's Hoosier Park in Anderson: Sept. 19
• Winner's Circle in New Haven: Sept. 19

The Indiana Gaming Commission has approved bets on events like professional boxing, golf, soccer, tennis and auto racing. Bettors can also bet on less popular events like darts, cricket, lacrosse, and sailing.

Governor Eric Holcomb signed bill HEA 1015 into law in May, bringing significant changes to Indiana’s gambling industry. The law allows people in the state to place wagers on professional and college sports, as well as eSports, but prohibits wagering on high school and amateur youth sporting events. It also allows for new casinos in Gary and Terre Haute.
