The recent permits for the operation of casinos which were obtained through the courts shall be revoked, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador told the Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced that the recent casino licenses that were granted in judicial proceedings will be revoked. He also told the Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero they intend to “clean away” the corruption from the government.

"Although I instructed that no new casino permits be issued, they managed to obtain licenses because the resort to the courts but I have now ordered that such permit be revoked. I requested the Secretary of the Interior that she handled the matter and she has just told me that the licenses will be revoked," the Mexican President explained.

On September 1st, pursuant to a judicial ruling, the Secretariat of the Interior granted two new licenses: one for Wadcor —for 12 years— to open up to 10 establishments, and the other for Mexico-based True Win Group.

"We want no more casinos to open and no more permits to be granted, that began during Vicente Fox’s administration and was not adequate," López Obrador had said in September. "We are not going to grant such permits. Some licenses may have been issued but that is because we need to clean up the government, and we have been doing that for a long time now, but we are not done yet."
