In an attempt to take preventive measures against the coronavirus spread, the Goa government announced last week Wednesday that a full lockdown was to be enforced until May 3, however, the lockdown has been extended until May 10.

As per the official release, essential services will remain exempted while various commercial establishments will remain closed, and political and social gatherings will be banned during the lockdown.

During the official release the state’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, said that casinos, hotels, and pubs will continue to remain closed during the lockdown

The lockdown first came into effect after the Indian state had recorded 2,110 new cases and 31 deaths, reports India News.

Last week Goa’s Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane, revised the COVID-19 treatment protocol, by deciding to give medicine to people going to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms, even before their test results were out.

Rane said the data of deceased patients had revealed that many of them had died due to delayed admission at hospitals. Therefore the state’s government redrew its protocol, under which symptomatic patients will be given medicine immediately when they arrive for testing.

On Saturday Goa recorded 2,303 new Covid-19 cases, taking its caseload to 93,355 while 54 deaths pushed the toll to 1,222, as per official data.
