Konami Holdings Corporation released Thursday its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021, reporting an increase in full-year earnings driven by revenue growth.
Total revenue in the period was 272,656 billion yen ($2.48 billion), a 3.7% increase from last fiscal year. Operating profits amounted to 36,550 billion yen ($333 million), an 18% growth year-over-year. Business profit increased by 45% and profit for the year climbed 62%.
The digital entertainment segment was the main profit driver with a 33% increase to bring $1.86 billion, while earnings across Konami's amusement, sports and gaming & systems sectors were down. The pandemic saw amusement facilities forced to close temporarily, and impacted sales of amusement machines. This segment's revenue dropped 25%, while sports saw a 38% decrease, and gaming & systems saw a 41% decline.
Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2022, the company said due to the pandemic situation the outlook remains uncertain. "Earnings visibility remains low given COVID-19 related factors including declarations of state-of-emergency and timeline of vaccine rollout. Hence, consolidated earnings outlook for the fiscal year ending March 2022 has not been determined with the challenging
circumstances to make a reasonable calculation. We will promptly disclose our guidance when a reasonable projection becomes possible," the company stated.
