Slot machines revenues rebound in Connecticut's two tribal casinos

Slot machines revenues at Connecticut’s two tribal casinos have risen as Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino report an increase on the influx of visitors over the summer after the ease of COVID-19 restrictions. Both properties were closed for more than three months during the highest point of the pandemic. 

Mohegan Tribe’s Mohegan Sun generated $49.9 million in slot-machine revenues in July after winning payouts. This represents a 5% increase from July 2020 and the most money the casino has retained since August 2019, according to The Day of New London. 

Mohegan Sun has also launched more promotions and entertainment over the season, according to CEO Jeff Hamilton. He stated that concerts at the Mohegan Sun Arena have helped to drive traffic. 

Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Foxwoods Resort kept $36.5 million in July, a 19.6% increase from the more than $30.5 million generated in July 2020. This is the casino’s highest amount since November 2019.

The casinos provide the state of Connecticut 25% of their slot machine revenues. In July, Mohegan sent the state nearly $12.5 million while Foxwoods provided $9.1 million.

Jason Guyot, CEO of Foxwoods, said slot revenues at Foxwoods increased by $7.1 million from June to July.

“We’re pleased to see continued business momentum as consumers look for unique and exciting experiences close to home,” he said in a statement. To meet increased consumer demand this summer, he said the casino has offered new experiences, including an outdoor pop-up eatery and a ‘Cocktail Carnival’”, he stated.
