Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport, a Boyd Gaming's property, hosted a grand opening for a new FanDuel Sportsbook on Friday at 10 a.m.
The new sportsbook will be the first to open in Shreveport. It is a newly designed 1,466 square foot retail location that features three live betting windows, multiple self-service betting terminals, multiple video displays and seating for more than 20 guests.
In December, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board granted sports betting licenses to five Boyd Gaming's casinos in Acadiana and Shreveport. These included Sam's Town in Shreveport, Treasure Chest in Kenner, Amelia Belle in Amelia, Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, and Delta Downs in Vinton.

LGCB Chair Ronnie Johns said then that it would be at least January before the casinos can implement their mobile apps. That's the same timeline expected for bars and restaurants to secure sports betting kiosks for their customers. However, earlier this week, Johns stated that the online sports betting launch does not have a confirmed date yet, as the timeline is being modified daily.
Voters in 55 of Louisiana's 64 parishes approved legalizing sports betting in their communities last fall, but lawmakers had to set up the framework to regulate and tax sports wagers during the 2021 spring Legislative Session. All of the current sports betting options are on-site sportsbooks, or betting parlors.
