Detroit’s Greektown Casino-Hotel is set to undergo rebranding and a renovation process, according to property owner Penn National Gaming. The company announced on Monday that the casino and 30-story hotel will be renamed 'Hollywood Casino at Greektown.'

The new name, which is subject to regulatory approvals, will take effect from May 1, thus bringing the Detroit property in line with the other 18 casinos owned by the company that feature the “Hollywood” brand. But it isn’t the only thing new at the downtown property.

“Becoming Hollywood Casino at Greektown will offer our guests the best of both worlds: we’re keeping all of the unique, neighborhood charm that has defined Greektown since we opened our doors, while adding several new amenities that come with being a part of Penn National’s flagship brand family,” said John Drake, general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown.

The casino recently unveiled a $30 million renovation of its hotel, including a new lobby cocktail bar. The venue is also undergoing a complete redesign of all 400 of its guestrooms and suites, expected to be completed in the coming months. Carpets, hallways, elevator vestibules and other common areas have also been updated and now feature a new HVAC system.

Gaming offerings have also been updated, and the casino will now offer cashless and cardless betting through the “mywallet” solution within the mobile mychoice rewards apps. The product allows guests to connect to slot machines and table games through their phones and to add funds, collect winnings, earn tier points and more. Traditional cards are, however, still an option.

In terms of food and beverage changes, the Urban Cocktail and Rock bar lounges, and a new upscale Dunkin’ concept, are in the hotel lobby. The Monroe Market food hall will include a new Detroit Taco Company location, according to Click on Detroit.

The Prism steakhouse now also offers a new menu, created under the direction of Chef Petro Drakopoulos, who was recently appointed executive chef of the casino and hotel’s food and beverage operations. Meanwhile, guests may find dining and cocktails options at the Barstool Sportsbook, which is open every day of the week and on weekends offers a Barstool Brunch.

Additionally, Penn National has also invested $1 million in improvements to the casino’s self-park and VIP parking garages. The VIP parking garage -a 700+ space garage with no public access for higher-tier level players- has been remodeled and is connected to the upper-level gaming floor.

“Whether you’re a regular, loyal guest or a first-time visitor, we’ll have something new and improved for you to experience and enjoy,” added Drake. “Hollywood is coming to Detroit, and we’re ready to roll out the red carpet for our visitors and guests. It's Tinsel Town meets Greektown.”

For those seeking entertainment experiences, Hollywood Casino at Greektown has extended its partnership with the Detroit Music Hall for the 2022-2023 season. There will be shows featuring well-known acts including Michael Bolton, Wanda Sykes, Boyz II Men, Jim Brewer, America, and more this year.

The rebranding will be celebrated through a series of red carpet themed private VIP and community events, set for May 19 from 5 pm until 9 pm, and May 21 from 6 pm until 11 pm. There will be entertainment, drinks and prizes. Additionally, to commemorate the date, Hollywood Casino at Greektown will be making a $10,000 contribution to the Greektown Neighborhood Partnership.

Greektown Casino-Hotel is one of Michigan’s largest casinos and one of the three located in Detroit. It was bought by Penn National for $1 billion in May 2019 from Jack Entertainment, which planned to rebrand the venue to Jack Detroit Casino-Hotel Greektown in 2016, but the change never went into effect.
