Massachusetts' three casinos garner $91M in GGR in May; Encore Boston top contributor with $58M

As reported by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Wednesday, the three state casinos, Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor generated approximately $91 million in gross gaming revenue, with Encore Boston as the top winner, having harvested $58 million in the fifth month of the year alone.

Encore’s revenue, which taxes to the state reach 25%, saw $25 million in table games revenue, complemented by $32 million coming from slots. 

MGM Springfield reported $21.2 million in gross gaming revenue, down $1.3 million or 6% from April. But the result was about the same as in May 2021. The casino saw $4 million in table games and $17.1 million in slot games. 

Plainridge saw $11 million last month, all coming from slot gaming and, as a category 2 slots facility, it is taxed on 49% of GGR.

That money is allocated to several specific state funds as determined by the gaming statute. To date, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $1.101 billion in local taxes and assessment from PPC, MGM and Encore, since respective openings of each gaming facility.

Back in March, the Gaming Commission reported a combined revenue of $102 million, a figure that constituted the third month of 2022 as the best one on record for Encore Boston Harbor, which brought in $64.87 million, translating into $16.2 million in state taxes and fees.
