Gaming test lab and product certification consultancy BMM Testlabs announced Thursday that the Ohio Casino Control Commission has authorized the firm to test and certify sports gaming equipment in the state.
Melissa Shuba, VP of Government Affairs, commented: “BMM is very pleased to have been approved for issuing certifications for sports gaming equipment in Ohio. We look forward to utilizing our decades of experience to provide testing services for the state."
“We value our ongoing partnership with the Ohio Casino Control Commission and would like to thank their staff for their continued cooperation and diligence during this process," she concluded.
The company is now accepting supplier submissions for testing and certifying equipment in the region. The move comes ahead of Ohio's sports betting market launch, which is set to occur on the universal start date of January 1, 2023.
Sports betting operators, pro sports franchises and state businesses rushed to submit the required paperwork to ensure eligibility for a license before a Friday deadline last week. bet365, NFL’s Cleveland Browns, MLB’s Cleveland Guardians and William Hill were among the major names that made last-minute submissions before the first window for applications closed, joining businesses such as DraftKings, BetMGM, Penn National and PointsBet, which were among the first to apply.
BMM's authorization in Ohio marks a new milestone in the lab’s expansion throughout North America. However, the company has recently broadened its footprint in other jurisdictions such as Latin America, where its representatives have recently attended the PGS trade event in Peru.
In an exclusive interview with Yogonet, BMM Testlabs’ Daniel Magariños, Sales Manager for South America at BMM, explained that the LATAM region plays “an extremely important role” for the company.
“We have customers from almost every country in the region, and the development of their products must meet local, regional, and international demands," he said "Thus, our presence worldwide is a key point to meet the needs of our customers, which allows them to open business possibilities in other regions."
