PointsBet announced Monday that its wholly owned subsidiary PointsBet Louisiana has received launch authorization from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. The brand is now live and has taken its first bets in the state.
This launch marks the fourth one under a partnership with Penn National Gaming, which was first announced in August 2019. It also represents the company’s 12th online sportsbook operation in the United States, following launches in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and Kansas.

The executive further highlighted that with the NFL and CFB season in full swing, the timing is "perfect" for the company to showcase its live betting capabilities. PointsBet becomes the ninth sportsbook operator to enter Louisiana by joining DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Barstool Sportsbook, BetRivers, Caesars, WynnBET, and Betfred. Additionally, there are 17 retail sportsbooks in the state, operated by DraftKings, Caesars, FanDuel, Betfred, and Barstool.
Earlier this month, PointsBet announced the opening of its retail sportsbook in partnership with The Riverboat on the Potomac in Maryland. The PointsBet Retail Sportsbook at The Riverboat on the Potomac will feature 21 high-resolution screens, a bar setup with food and beverage offerings, an exclusive lounge area, booth seating and standing room.
