Sports betting brand Betway announced Wednesday it is adding former Premier League and Republic of Ireland soccer star Robbie Keane to its portfolio of ambassadors. Kanye is set to provide insights to football fans with regular blog posts that will be hosted on the brand's editorial hub, the Betway Insider.
Keane is Ireland’s top scorer of all time and is the 20th-highest goalscorer in international football history. He also scored 126 Premier League goals from his time at West Ham, Liverpool, Leeds, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, the operator noted.
With World Cup 2022 just around the corner, Betway has launched its UK and Ireland campaign, Quest To Qatar, "where customers get rewarded for their loyalty as they build a free bet pot for the international football tournament that kicks off on 20 November," the company noted.
Anthony Werkman, CEO of Betway, said: “It’s with great pleasure that we welcome Robbie Keane to our roster of brand ambassadors. Robbie is well known to football fans in the UK and Ireland for his goalscoring achievements in the Premier League, while his record for the Republic of Ireland at International level speaks for itself. With the World Cup just weeks away, we’re all looking forward to hearing his thoughts on the world’s biggest football competition.”
Robbie Keane also commented: "I’m thrilled to be joining Betway as a brand ambassador and I’m looking forward to sharing my views and opinions on the upcoming World Cup tournament and on the Premier League season."
Last month, the UK Gambling Commission mandated Betway to pay £408,915 ($463,151) in fines after an investigation revealed that the brand was marketing on the children's pages of West Ham United Football Club’s website. Commission inquiries revealed that between April 14, 2020, and November 6, 2021, the operator’s gambling logo, which linked to its website, was displayed on a webpage offering the opportunity to print a teddy bear for children to color in.
