New York’s Resorts World Hudson Valley (RWHV) is set to hold its grand opening ceremony on Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m., company executives announced Monday. Located in Orange County at the Newburgh Mall, just 60 miles north of Manhattan, RWHV will feature 50,000 square feet of gaming and hospitality space including 1,200 slot machines and electronic table games, as well as the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar.

"Resorts World Hudson Valley represents a shared vision that we, along with our partners in Orange County, had to create an entertainment destination that will attract hundreds of thousands of guests and visitors, while providing tremendous benefits to the local, regional and statewide community," said Robert DeSalvio, President, Genting Americas East. "We are delighted to open our doors this holiday season and welcome everyone.”

The facility’s sports bar is described as an octagonal bar at the center of the casino, which will show sporting events on a ring of eight overhead TVs, encouraging patrons to place bets on their phones by using the company’s sports wagering app, Resorts World App. The full project employed about 200 construction workers and cost about $50 million, up from an original estimate of $32 million. The casino is operated by Asian giant Genting.

“What we’re really trying to go for here is more of a locals hangout, almost like a Cheers vibe,” said earlier this year Meghan Taylor, vice president of government affairs and public relations for Genting Americas. "It’s a convenient play for those that are interested in gaming, but also a really cool and inviting environment for folks who just come and have a drink, relax, and catch up with friends.”

The opening of RWHV is set to bring 250 new full-time jobs with an average annual wage of $72,000, including salary and benefits, according to the firm. Additionally, RWHV is expected to contribute an estimated $65 million in taxes every year to support NYS public schools. “To date, Resorts World properties throughout the state have contributed more than $3.6 billion to support public schools in New York,” a press release highlights.

Genting also claims the casino will provide “a halo effect” inside of the mall property it inhabits, “playing a crucial role in a revitalization plan to benefit current tenants at the Newburgh Mall and attract new ones.” RWHV is the company’s third destination in New York, joining Resorts World Catskills in Monticello and Resorts World New York City in Queens. Across its three properties, Genting has invested more than $1.2 billion.

The new venue is spread across a couple of acres of blue and orange carpeting where the Bon Ton department store used to be. Ahead of the opening, the casino is encouraging Resorts World Hudson Valley guests to sign up for Genting Rewards, Resorts World’s loyalty program. The program provides “exclusive access to unique offerings,” and membership is free.
