Maryland casinos revenue see holiday season slowdown raking in $165.1M in December

As reported by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission, Maryland’s six casinos collectively generated $165.2 million in revenue from slot machines and table games in December. The total represented a decrease of $7.7 million (4.5%) compared to the same period the previous year.

MGM National Harbor was the top generating property, which saw $69.3 million in revenue, a decrease of 6.9% compared to the previous year. Live! Casino & Hotel followed with $59.6 million, with a drop of 4.4% year-over-year.

Horseshoe Casino raked in $16.8 million last month, a decrease of 1.4% from 2021; while Hollywood Casino saw a rise of 1.5% to a total revenue of $7.3 million during the same period. Ocean Downs Casino made it to $7.2 million, increasing 7.3% from the same period in 2021; and Rocky Gap Casino dropped 3.7% to $4.8 million.

Casino gaming contributions to the state last month totaled $69.6 million, a decrease of $1.4 million (2%) compared to December 2021. Contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in December 2022 were $50,6 million a decrease of 2.1% compared to the same month in 2021. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.
