888 Holdings has appointed Alexis Zamboglou as the Managing Director of the online gambling group's UK and Irish operations. Under the role, Zamboglou will be responsible for 888’s full portfolio in the British and Irish markets, including the 888sport, 888casino, William Hill, and Mr Green gaming brands.
Zamboglou replaces Phil Walker, who has now been named Chief Commercial Officer. A long-term member of Wiliam Hill and its senior management teams, Zamboglou joined the company back in 2020.
Zamboglou wrote on LinkedIn: “Hugely excited to get the opportunity to run the UK and Irish business, with some of the biggest brands in the globe in William Hill, 888 and Mr Green! Really looking forward to working across sports, gaming and marketing with some of the most talented teams in the industry and building on the success we’ve had so far in 2023.”
Zamboglou worked at William Hill for three and a half years, where served in various roles including UK Strategy Director, Marketing Director and the dual-role of UK Marketing Director and Managing Director for Ireland.
During his tenure, both William Hill and its Mr Green iGaming brand were acquired by Caesars Entertainment, in 2021. William Hill's non-US assets were then sold to 888 in September 2021, and integrated into its new parent company’s portfolio in February 2022.
Zamboglou's work experience also includes BoyleSports as Social Media Manager and Senior Marketing Manager; and the role of Marketing Director for Ladbrokes Coral and Entain.
His new role at 888 comes at a transformational time for the company, as the UK and Irish markets undergo legislative and regulatory changes on gambling. The UK is undergoing consultation on the Gambling Act review White Paper, while a re-regulation gambling bill advances in Ireland.
In addition, 888 has seen changes in its leadership team, with Itai Pazner, former 888 Chief Executive, leaving the role earlier this year amid failings in the business’ know your customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) processes. Jon Mendelsohn has been serving as Interim CEO while the search for a permanent boss continues.
Zamboglou concluded: “It’s been a year of transformation and foundation building for 888/William Hill but we’re now ready and revving to go for growth in both the UK and Ireland, underpinned by our continued and tireless work on player safety and our customer first mission.”
