Online gambling operator Kindred reported the revenue share generated from harmful gambling in the second quarter of the year. The total amounted to 3.1% of total revenue, down from this year’s first quarter by 0.2%. Overall revenue in Q2 was GBP 307.3 million ($396.3 million), a 29% increase from the same period in 2022.
Kindred had initially reported that its share of problem gambling revenue in Q1 was 3.0%. However, in this quarter’s update, the operator noted that there had been a miscalculation and that the actual problem gambling revenue for Q1 was 3.3%.
Kindred noted that in this year’s second quarter, the improvement effect after interventions increased during the second quarter to 86.4%, compared to 83.0% in Q1. The operator restated that its responsible gambling efforts are guided by its ongoing ambition to generate zero percent revenue from harmful gambling.
Nils Andén, Interim CEO of Kindred Group
Nils Andén, Interim CEO of Kindred Group, said: “Our ‘Journey towards Zero’ ambition is an important parameter for Kindred and our ability to contribute towards a fact-based dialogue on how to establish a more sustainable gambling industry. It also acts as a fundamental metric in Kindred’s internal efforts to improve our responsible gambling efforts.”
“We have always been clear that we will not achieve this ambition overnight. Collaboration across industry stakeholders remains a critical success factor, such as our collaboration with the Swedish treatment center Spel Friheten where we address harmful gambling by combining our complementary expertise towards a common goal," he added.
Kindred noted that it started to communicate its Journey towards Zero in February 2021 and has disclosed the share of the revenue from harmful gambling, as well as the improvement effect after interventions, on a quarterly basis.
