The New Hampshire Lottery has achieved a milestone in Fiscal Year 2023, surpassing its all-time sales high with total sales exceeding $603 million. This marks a 12% increase of $66.5 million compared to the previous year's record of $536.5 million.
As a direct consequence of these figures, the New Hampshire Lottery has generated $187 million in support of public education in the state. This reflects a 27% increase of $40 million compared to the previous record of $146.6 million.
Since its establishment in 1964, the New Hampshire Lottery has contributed over $2.64 billion to public education, providing valuable support to students, teachers, and schools throughout the state.
Governor Chris Sununu expressed his enthusiasm for the achievement, stating: "With over $603 million in lottery sales, children across New Hampshire hit the jackpot with $187 million in profits returned to support public education just this year. With no income tax taken from winnings when you buy in New Hampshire and millions in support of public education, playing the lottery is a win-win."
Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Lottery, shared his pride in breaking yet another sales record, emphasizing the organization's commitment to maximizing revenue for education.
He stated: "The New Hampshire Lottery strives for excellence, and we will continue to work tirelessly to meet and exceed the expectations of our New Hampshire players. With record high numbers from Mega Millions and Powerball, sports betting, and our expanded menu of in-store and online games, we are confident the New Hampshire Lottery will continue to succeed and grow throughout Fiscal Year 2024 and beyond."
Over the past five years, the New Hampshire Lottery has experienced growth, with sales increasing by 55%, equivalent to $213.2 million. Nearly all New Hampshire Lottery games exceeded last year's sales pace, driven by Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots. Mega Millions sales surged by nearly 104%, while Powerball sales increased by 19% year-over-year.
New Hampshire's partnership with DraftKings as the exclusive provider for sports betting has also proven to be fruitful. Total sports wagering in Fiscal Year 2023 exceeded $883 million.
This included over $709 million in wagers through the DraftKings online sportsbook and nearly $174 million at New Hampshire's retail sportsbooks. Sports betting generated $35.6 million in revenue, contributing to New Hampshire's educational funding.
In addition to the funding generated directly from Lottery games, the New Hampshire Lottery and the state's 14 charitable gaming establishments contributed an additional $23.3 million to support local charities and nonprofits.
Additionally, $18.2 million was allocated to New Hampshire's public school system through charitable gaming activities, which encompass Games of Chance, Historic Horse Racing, Bingo, and Lucky 7.
