The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gaming (DGOJ), the regulator of the online sector in Spain, opened to public consultation the draft resolution to approve the adherence of online sports betting and horse racing operators to the Global Investigation Service for the Gambling Market (SIGMA).

In a statement, management noted that "this project aims to adopt a resolution that complies with the legal mandate requiring the adhesion of gambling operators" to SIGMA to fight fraud in sports betting.

The deadline to make contributions is open until April 12 and contributions can be sent to the e-mail address [email protected]

The DGOJ warned that in the gambling sector "one of the most worrying phenomenons" is "corruption linked to the manipulation of sports competitions and fraud in sports betting, which affect the normal development of activities related to gambling".

The regulator added that both evils undermine "the interests of the actors involved in this sector, and constitute one of the greatest threats to the sport, as they threaten its essential values and alienate fans and followers from their environment."

As a result, the DGOJ reiterated that this is the reason it has been agreed to open the public information process, during which any individual or legal entity may make any comments or suggestions they deem appropriate on the future resolution.
