The Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has strengthened its commitment to sports integrity by becoming an associate member of the United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS).

ULIS, a syndicate of state lotteries based in Lausanne, Switzerland, works with international partners to detect and warn against suspicious betting activities and potential match-fixing.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Swedish Gambling Authority into our integrity network. This collaboration strengthens both organizations’ commitment to upholding sports integrity. International cooperation is crucial, given the complex challenges we face in fighting competition manipulation,” said ULIS General Secretary Luca Esposito.

As the regulatory body overseeing all forms of gambling and betting in Sweden, Spelinspektionen aims to maintain sports integrity as mandated by Article 13 of the Macolin Convention, emphasizing the need for national and international cooperation to combat sports competition manipulation.

"The partnership with ULIS aligns perfectly with our mission to ensure a clean and fair gambling environment," said Rosenberg, Director of the Swedish Gambling Authority. "By joining forces with ULIS, we are enhancing our capabilities to monitor and tackle the issues surrounding competition manipulation in our country and across its board."

In the upcoming months, Spelinspektionen plans to introduce a new cooperative framework to address match-fixing and corruption in Sweden. This initiative follows the Riksdag's approval of the “Measures Against Match-Fixing and Unlicensed Gambling Operations” in 2023. These measures will require Swedish gambling and sporting bodies to implement new controls and share data on threats related to match-fixing and sports integrity.

Stakeholders in Swedish sports and gambling are mandated to report any suspected match-fixing events to Spelinspektionen and Swedish authorities, fostering a collaborative approach to safeguarding sports integrity.
