Baroness Fiona Twycross has been appointed as the new Minister for Gambling within the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This announcement comes as part of Labour’s unveiling of its ministerial team for the department.

Baroness Twycross, who has been a member of the House of Lords since November 2022, will now oversee gambling affairs and report directly to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy.

In addition to her duties as Minister for Gambling, Twycross will serve as a Lords Minister, managing DCMS business in the House of Lords. Stephanie Peacock, the Labour MP for Barnsley South, has been announced as the minister for sport, media, civil society and youth and will handle gambling matters in the House of Commons.

Baroness Twycross expressed her enthusiasm for her new role on her X account, stating: “Delighted to be part of a fabulous team supporting @lisanandy in @DCMS.”

In April 2018, she was appointed as London’s first Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience by Mayor Sadiq Khan. She was on the London Assembly from 2012 to 2020 and prior to the election worked for Diabetes UK.

Earlier this month, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) expressed its willingness to collaborate with the new Labour government. The trade body pledged to work together on safer gambling, boosting economic growth and support for grassroots sport.
