The Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance (SPA) published a regulatory instruction that regulates the registration of the domain 'bet.br' for bookmakers' websites.
According to the new legislation, this domain will be mandatory for all authorized operators as of January 2025, to facilitate the identification of who operates legally in the market.
"Fixed odds betting operators shall apply to the registration of the domain ‘bet.br’ on the website https://registro.br/, of the Ponto BR Information and Coordination Center - NIC.br, following the notification referred to in art. 16, caput, of SPA/MF Ordinance No. 827, of May 21, 2024," states an extract from the regulation.
The article of Ordinance 827 cited by the regulatory instruction states that the SPA will notify the companies that have been approved for the license to pay the subsidy and submit the necessary evidence, i.e., after receiving this notification, the operator must apply for the registration of 'bet.br' at the address indicated by the secretariat.
The SPA will analyze the domain applications to verify the registration date and if the names correspond to the trademarks to be operated.
According to the text signed by the secretary of Prizes and Gambling, Regis Dudena, "the use of the registry technology Domain Name System Security Extensions - DNSSEC is mandatory for the registration of 'bet.br' domains."
