Churchill Downs has set the grand opening date for its $100 million casino complex just across the Indiana border in Kentucky. Owensboro Racing & Gaming will welcome its first guests on February 12, nearly one year after plans for the facility were first announced.
The venue will feature 600 historical racing machines, a retail sportsbook, simulcast wagering, and multiple food and beverage offerings, including The Starting Gate Bar & Lounge and The Track Kitchen. Churchill Downs is currently hiring for a variety of open positions ahead of the opening, with more information available here.
Officials for the Louisville-based operator previously estimated the facility would generate $125 million in annual economic impact for the region and create 150 permanent jobs. It will also serve as an annex for Ellis Park, supporting the racetrack’s summer meets in Henderson.
“The entire team is incredibly excited to welcome the public to our grand opening festivities on February 12th,” Steve Roof, General Manager of Owensboro Racing & Gaming, said. “The day will feature a ceremonial ribbon cutting, giveaways, promotions, and live entertainment. It will be the perfect kick-off to all the thrills that await our guests at what is sure to be a premier regional entertainment destination.”
Guests can sign up for a Players Club Card ahead of the grand opening to start earning rewards. Registration is available now at Ellis Park, the Owensboro Racing & Gaming office, or at community events in the coming months.
The property is located at 460 Wrights Landing Road. The city of Owensboro is located across the Ohio River from Spencer County in Indiana. The opening of the new casino comes less than a year after Churchill Downs opened the Terre Haute Casino Resort.
