SBC Summit Rio to highlight Brazil's regulatory framework through dedicated educational program

The upcoming SBC Summit Rio will provide attendees with insights into compliance strategies, regulatory developments, and updates on Brazil's shifting industry landscape through a dedicated 'Regulation & Compliance' track, organizers announced.

The event, which expects to gather around 15,000 industry professionals, will equip brands aiming to capitalize on Brazil's newly regulated market, which launched on January 1, with insights into how to maintain strict compliance with evolving regulations.

The dedicated educational program is scheduled for Wednesday, 26th February, the first core day of the Brazilian sports betting and gaming event, to be held at Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro.

According to SBC, delegates can look forward to in-depth discussions on the future regulation of land-based casinos, strategies for smaller operators to manage rising licensing fees, the factors driving international mergers and acquisitions, and innovative approaches for lotteries to modernize their offerings while staying compliant.

The panel titled 'Lotteries: From Tradition to Innovation' will examine how traditional lotteries can innovate their offerings, whilst maintaining regulatory compliance. 

Featuring industry experts Hugo Baungartner (VP of Global Markets, Aposta Ganha), Felipe Maximino (VP of Tech & Operations, Sorte Online), and Marco Taurisano (CEO, Kroopiê Consulting and Training), the panel will discuss how lotteries are embracing innovation to remain competitive and achieve long term sustainability, whilst also exploring the modern approaches adopted by lotteries to combat common market challenges. 

The panel 'Brazil Cost: Taxation and Legal Insecurity' will provide an in-depth analysis of Brazil's intricate taxation framework. 

Featuring a lineup of experts from the Brazilian public sector, including Rodrigo Verly (Tax Auditor, Federal Revenue Service), Andrea Barreto (General Coordinator of Tax Affairs, Attorney General's Office, National Treasury), Ricardo Saadi (Director of Investigation and Combating Organized Crime and Corruption, Federal Police), and panel moderator Ana Helena Karnas Hoefel Pamplona (Lawyer, University Professor, and Co-founder of AMIG), discussions will highlight practical solutions for addressing taxation challenge and strategies for proactively managing tax compliance. 

The speakers will also discuss the legal risks brands may encounter if they fail to meet regulatory requirements.

The session 'Land-Based: New Laws, Big Opportunities' will analyze Brazil's complex and challenging journey toward modernizing the laws surrounding land-based betting.

Bringing together prominent legal and industry experts, such as Bárbara Teles (Lawyer, Rei do Pitaco), Vitória Lopes Goellner (Legal Counsel, BET77), Magnho José (Editor and President, BNLData - IJL), and moderator Caio Loureiro (Partner, TozziniFreire Advogados), the panel will discuss land-based betting, including casinos, bingo, and 'jogo do bicho'. 

Additionally, the panel will reflect on future land-based regulations and their potential implications for the vertical.

Closing the track is the panel titled 'M&A Surge: The Fate of Local Champions', which will explore how investment from international brands could elevate the financial burden of regulatory fees for smaller operations. 

Featuring experts Robin Chabra (CEO, Tekkorp), David Carruthers (Strategy Executive, DigiPlus Interactive), Tom Waterhouse (Chief Investment Officer, Waterhouse VC), Neil Montgomery (Founding Partner and Manager, Montgomery) and moderator Anton Kaszubowski (Founder & Managing Director, SBC Advisory Partners), the panel will examine the key drivers of M&A activity, the regulatory challenges impacting mergers and acquisitions, and strategies for success for both international and domestic stakeholders.
