The global sports betting market surged to EUR 45.43 billion ($47.17 billion) in revenue in 2024, marking a 6% year-on-year increase, according to Statista. Average revenue per user (ARPU) also grew from EUR 320 in 2023 to EUR 330 in 2024, as betting activity soared across platforms:

• Mobile betting: Up 210%
• Desktop betting: Up 194%

Specific sports categories experienced remarkable growth in betting volumes:

• Football: +21%
• Tennis: +136%
• American Football: +650%
• Basketball: +115%
• Table Tennis: +640%

These trends underscore the importance of leveraging diverse sporting events to boost player engagement and maintain revenue stability, the company said.

Alexander Kamenetskyi, Head of SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, highlighted strategies for sportsbook operators to succeed in 2025.

Personalized engagement strategies, such as offering free bets on favorite sports or combo bonuses for major events like the Champions League and French Open finals, are key to attracting and retaining customers.

With 90% of sportsbook revenue generated from mobile users, ensuring a seamless, mobile-first platform is essential for success. Additionally, automating processes like audience segmentation, bonus distribution, and campaign management can reduce operational costs while improving the overall player experience.

Kamenetskyi said: “Esports presents a growing opportunity, allowing operators to engage younger, tech-savvy audiences through live streams, real-time betting options, and dedicated campaigns.”

The calendar spans 24 sports categories, reflecting SOFTSWISS’s commitment to diversification. According to the company, offering a broad range of sports contributes to operational stability and sustained player interest.

SOFTSWISS is sharing further strategies and insights at this week's ICE Barcelona 2025, where it is showcasing its solutions at Stand 2G42.

As Kamenetskyi noted: “A personalized approach, flexible bonuses, and automation will be the keys to success in 2025, helping operators stand out in an increasingly competitive market.”
