The Mechoopda Indian Tribe has announced that operations at Mechoopda Casino will cease on January 31, 2025. The decision, made by the Mechoopda Economic Gaming Authority (MEGA) Board, follows months of careful assessment and efforts to address operational challenges.
Tribal Chairman Dennis Ramirez described the decision as a difficult but necessary step, stating the impact on employees, patrons, and the local community.
"Suspending operations at the Casino is a heart-wrenching decision that affects not only our Tribe but also our valued employees, customers, and the surrounding community," said Ramirez.
"While this chapter is closing, our commitment to the Casino's long-term vision remains steadfast. For over 25 years, this project has been a cornerstone of our economic development goals, and we will continue to work toward its future reopening."
The casino, which has provided employment to 64 individuals, will continue to operate through the end of January, allowing patrons to enjoy its services before closure. The Tribe has assured employees that support measures will be in place to assist them during the transition, including access to resources and guidance.
While a definitive timeline for reopening has yet to be established, the MEGA Board and Tribal leadership are actively exploring strategies to revive operations in the future. In the meantime, guests and community members are encouraged to stay informed through the casino’s official website and social media platforms, where updates regarding potential reopening efforts will be provided.
Despite the immediate challenges, Ramirez expressed confidence in the Tribe’s ability to overcome setbacks and build a sustainable future for the casino. "Our Tribe has faced challenges before and emerged stronger. We are confident in our ability to do so again," he said.
