Mississippi casinos grapple with snow and ice, forcing closures and service limits

Unprecedented snow and ice in South Mississippi have disrupted operations at the region’s 12 casinos, including those in Biloxi, prompting closures and service restrictions during the week. The weather, unusual for the area accustomed to tropical storms, has made roads and bridges hazardous, forcing management to adapt operations.  

While most casinos remained open to accommodate hotel guests, many shuttered restaurants and other amenities or limited operations.  

• Palace Casino Resort: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday, reopening Thursday at 8 AM. Limited restaurant service is available for hotel guests only. 

• Boomtown Biloxi: Closed Tuesday, reopening Wednesday at noon.  

• Scarlet Pearl Casino: Closed through Wednesday, reopening Thursday at noon.

“We can’t wait to welcome our guests back to Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort with fully operational gaming, restaurants, and boutique,” the casino said in a statement.
  
• Beau Rivage Resort & Casino: Monitoring conditions but expects to remain open.  

• Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast: Limited operations on Tuesday and Wednesday; normal operations to resume on Thursday.  

• IP Casino Resort: Operating with limited venues open on Tuesday. 
 
• Silver Slipper Casino: Updates are provided via the casino’s website. Slots, bar, Palm Court, and the hotel remain open. Full operations are expected to resume Thursday.  

Treasure Bay Casino has announced adjusted schedules for its venues. The Infinity Buffet will reopen on Thursday at 4 PM, while The Den/Blu will reopen on Wednesday at 4 PM. Meanwhile, The Cove will remain open until Thursday at 7 AM. 

The rare winter weather has forced the region’s casino industry, a significant economic driver, to adapt quickly. Many plan to return to full operations by Thursday as conditions improve.
