The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has launched Know Your Play, a campaign to educate college-aged students on responsible gaming, mental health, and financial literacy.
The initiative, launched in partnership with EPIC Global Solutions, Kindbridge Behavioral Health, and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), encompasses digital tools, educational content, and in-person workshops.
"College students are learning to navigate newfound financial independence and equipping this age group with resources to make informed decisions that can build good financial habits will serve them throughout their lives, whether they engage in gaming or not," said Dr. Jennifer Shatley, executive director of ROGA.
She said that the campaign goes beyond student-athletes to educate the entire student population on responsible gaming, setting realistic expectations, and seeing gaming as entertainment—not a way to make money.
Know Your Play offers free resources at knowyourplay.org, even for students not enrolled in a university. The program covers key topics like randomness, impulsiveness, and limit setting, while debunking myths like the illusion of control in sports betting. It also addresses stress, mental health, and practical strategies for managing both. Select universities will pilot extended resources.
"EPIC has vast expertise and experience in creating programs that resonate with college-aged audiences and are delighted to partner with ROGA on a campaign that will provide critical education to college students across the country," said Teresa Fiore, SVP of Partnerships at EPIC Global Solutions.
"By combining expert knowledge with personal stories, our program aims to foster a well-rounded understanding of financial literacy, decision-making, and risk-taking,” Fiore added.
The campaign will launch in-person workshops and digital learning sessions across campuses in the coming weeks.
"College life presents unique pressures, from financial independence to academic performance, all of which can impact mental health," said Daniel Umfleet, CEO of Kindbridge Group. "This campaign will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions should they choose to gamble."
Recognizing the heightened risk of gambling-related harm among college students, RGC CEO Sarah McCarthy cited the importance of prevention education.
“College students face an increased risk of harm from gambling, making prevention education essential in protecting this important audience,” she said, noting that the campaign provides the tools they need to make informed decisions and reduce risk.
ROGA's members include major industry leaders like Bally's, BetMGM, bet365, DraftKings, Fanatics Betting and Gaming, FanDuel, Hard Rock Digital, and PENN Entertainment, representing 85% of the U.S. online gaming market.
