Tribal gaming leaders launch Self-Exclusion Program to promote responsible gambling

Tribal gaming leaders have announced the launch of a Tribal-Wide Self-Exclusion Program, a landmark initiative designed to enhance responsible gaming and support community well-being. The program, which allows individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from all participating tribal casinos in one step, will launch in Wisconsin in March before expanding to other states.

“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to the health of our people and communities,” said Ivory Kelly, CEO of the Tribal Council for Responsible Gaming. “By tribes coming together to offer a streamlined process for self-exclusion with a technology partner that shares our values, we help people in our communities who are looking to take a break or stop gambling do so for the amount of time they need.”

The program has gained widespread support from tribal gaming leaders and commissions. An Advisory Board has been established to oversee the initiative, including:

• Jamie Hummingbird – Chairman, National Tribal Gaming Commissioners/Regulators  
• Oscar Schuyler – Chairman, Board of Regulators, Tribal Gaming Regulatory Authority, Alabama Coushatta Tribe of Texas  
• Ernie Stevens, Jr. – Chairman, Indian Gaming Association of Washington, DC  
• Tamara Van Schyndel – Executive Director, Paskenta Tribal Gaming Commission  

The self-exclusion platform is powered by idPair, an award-winning software provider specializing in regulatory compliance, tribal sovereignty, and community-focused solutions.

“Tribal nations have long been at the forefront of promoting responsible gaming practices, demonstrating leadership through our actions,” said Ernie Stevens, Jr., Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association. “This initiative not only underscores the commitment of tribal nations to player protection but also sets a precedent for others to follow.”

The program will be showcased at the Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention at the Chairman’s Lounge on April 2, 2025, where industry leaders will discuss its implementation. Individual meetings with tribes will also be held throughout the event.

The program aims to provide a streamlined and accessible solution for those seeking self-exclusion from tribal gaming facilities. By collaborating across sovereign nations, tribal regulators hope to reinforce their commitment to responsible gaming while protecting individual choice and community welfare.
