The MLB's Athletics have filed for a commercial building permit in Clark County, Nevada, as the team moves forward with plans for a $1.75 billion stadium on the Las Vegas Strip.
The permit application, submitted in mid-March, covers foundation and deep utility work valued at $45.6 million, county records accessed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal show. This follows an earlier application for site excavation, which is still under review.
Under the financing terms, the A’s must spend the first $100 million on the project before accessing up to $380 million in public funding from Nevada and Clark County. The team has already invested more than $50 million, with the upcoming foundation work pushing them closer to the required threshold.
The A’s are also seeking $550 million in private investment, offering an equity stake in the franchise in return. Multiple potential investors, both from Nevada and beyond, have been vetted by Major League Baseball (MLB) as the team works to finalize its funding structure.
The 33,000-seat ballpark will occupy 9 acres of the 35-acre Tropicana site, with Bally’s Corp. set to develop an integrated resort on the remaining land.
The A’s plan to break ground between April and June, initially funding the construction with private money before the release of public funds.
The Clark County Commission will review the project on Wednesday, marking the first public discussion of the stadium’s development. The A’s and county officials are working on a development agreement and entitlement process for the project.
As part of Wednesday’s discussions, the team will request approval to begin excavation before the agreement is finalized, to keep the project on schedule.
While construction is underway, the A’s will play their home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento from 2025 to 2027.
