The Boring Company's Vegas Loop added another stop on Monday with the official opening of the Encore station. This marks its second station along the Las Vegas Strip and the third outside the Las Vegas Convention Center since the people mover system’s 2021 debut.
The new station, located at Encore Las Vegas, arrives just in time for the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, which is expected to draw more than 60,000 attendees to the Convention Center this week.
“We’re thrilled to have it open, particularly to have it open for NAB,” Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“A lot of the attendees, the exhibitors, and meeting organizers like to stay in the neighborhood. This makes it an easy two-minute ride,” he added. “It opens up a lot of opportunities and just makes the experience better for everybody that’s here.”
The Encore stop follows previous Vegas Loop expansions, including the Resorts World station that launched in 2022 and the Westgate station earlier this year. Currently, only one tunnel connects Encore to the Convention Center, with a second tunnel expected to be completed later this year. Until then, the route will operate with regulated directional traffic, similar to the initial setup at Resorts World.
“We’ve got the machine in the ground for the second tunnel headed to Wynn and Encore now,” Hill said. “We look forward to having a complete system there instead of just one tunnel, but it’s one step at a time.”
The Vegas Loop currently includes four stations within the Convention Center complex, including Riviera Station near the West Hall, which opened in 2023.
Construction is also progressing on the University Center Loop. That extension will run from the Silver Lot at the Convention Center to a new station near UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center. Along the way, it will serve Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and an adjacent parcel where Boring Co. plans to build a multifamily residential development with an attached convenience store.
Upon completion, the Vegas Loop will span 68 miles of tunnels with 104 stations, offering point-to-point service using Tesla vehicles. Boring Co. projects the system will eventually transport up to 90,000 passengers per hour.
No full completion date has been announced.
