Detroit casinos generated $117.4 million in revenue in March, as per the latest data from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB). This marks a strong recovery from February’s disappointing performance, when revenue fell below $100 million for the first time in 13 months.
The March revenue total is the highest recorded so far in 2025, setting a positive tone for the year ahead. Interestingly, March 2024 was also the best-performing month for Detroit casinos last year, making the March 2025 performance particularly encouraging.
While the March 2025 total is 19.2% higher than February, it’s still 4.5% lower than March 2024. Despite this, it could end up being the best month of the year for Detroit casinos, based on March being typically a fruitful month, especially as the season changes to spring, reports Play Michigan.
MGM Grand Detroit led the way with $53.8 million in revenue in March, followed by MotorCity Casino with $35.9 million and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with $27.1 million.
The three casinos paid $9.5 million in state gaming taxes, down from $9.9 million last year. They also submitted $13.9 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.
The casinos reported a total retail sports betting handle of $12.1 million in March 2025, with gross receipts of $580,011. However, the qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) for retail sports betting dropped 64.3% from March 2024 and 30.0% from February 2025.
For the first quarter of 2025, Detroit casinos have collectively earned $317.1 million, a slight decrease from the $321 million generated during the same period in 2024.
