The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist orders to the Panama-based operators of SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline.ag for conducting illegal gambling activities within the state.
The board said these operations violate multiple state laws, including the Michigan Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and the Michigan Penal Code.
SportsBetting.ag has been found to be illegally accepting wagers on a variety of activities, including sports, horse races, political events, table games, card games, and virtual casino games. The platform has also been offering cash-back incentives for casino losses.
Meanwhile, BetOnline.ag has been facilitating illegal betting across several categories, including sports, live events, casino-style games such as slots and blackjack, horse racing, esports, and contest tournaments. These activities involve real-money wagers, which can be funded through credit cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
Neither of the platforms holds the required licenses to operate in Michigan, the regulator said.
Both operators have been given 14 days to cease all gambling activities in Michigan. Failure to comply will result in further legal action, coordinated with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
“The Michigan Gaming Control Board is committed to enforcing Michigan’s gaming laws and protecting consumers from illegal gambling,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said. “We encourage residents to only engage with licensed and regulated online platforms for a safe and fair gaming experience.”
The MGCB is urging individuals to report any information related to illegal gambling by calling 1-888-314-2682 or emailing [email protected].
