The Indiana Gaming Commission authorized a Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, which has partnered with French Lick Casino, to conduct mobile sports betting beginning October 3. The firm has "substantially demonstrated" that its mobile sports wagering operation meets Indiana's requirements, gaming officials said Wednesday, as reported by IndyStar.

French Lick Casino said in August that all types of sports betting available at its retail sportsbook will be available on its online sportsbook. French Lick Casino was authorized Sept. 6 to take bets at its in-person sportsbook.

While gaming officials hoped to launch mobile sports betting Sept. 1, a two-tiered approach to rolling out sports gambling in the state — focusing first on retail betting, and then shifting to mobile betting — was never ruled out. Thirteen locations in the state are authorized to conduct retail sports betting.

Online sports betting platforms will use geofencing technology to make sure bettors are in Indiana when placing bets. Bettors will also need to provide personal identifying information to create an account on a mobile sports betting platform, which may include part of their social security number, birth date, email address and a credit or debit card number. They must be 21 years or older to place a sports bet in Indiana.
