Red Rocks Resorts' Durango casino in southwest Las Vegas Valley sets November 20 opening date

Casino developer and manager Red Rock Resorts has revealed November 20th as the planned opening date for its much-awaited Durango Casino & Resort in Las Vegas. However, the debut is pending regulatory approval, as per Station Casinos, Red Rock's subsidiary that will run the new development. 

Upon opening, Durango Resort will feature 200 hotel rooms, convention and meeting space, a resort pool with cabanas, outdoor social areas and free parking. The property is also set to feature 15 restaurants, including four signature outlets and a food hall.

"The all-new luxury resort set to debut in Southwest Las Vegas will offer tourists and locals an exceptional gaming experience, personalized hospitality, premier restaurants, and convenient access along the I-215," said Red Rock Resorts officials in a statement.

The property, located on South Durango Drive near the 215 Beltway, comes with a $780 million price tag and is expected to be the only unrestricted gaming property in a five-mile radius in what has been called one of the fastest-growing areas of the Las Vegas Valley.

In a call with investors, Board of Directors Vice Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta said the public can expect a full-fledged grand opening. “When we open properties, every aspect of the property is open, ready to go,” Fertitta said, as per Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We’ll open the doors and let her rip for the customers.”

The opening date's announcement came hours before the company lighted up Durango’s marquee at an event held Thursday night. The 130-foot-tall LED sign broadcasted the announcement to drivers on the 215.

Ahead of the opening, Red Rock Resorts has begun hiring through an internal recruitment campaign and plans to kick off external hiring on August 14. Roughly 1,500 jobs are needed to staff the resort.

When asked if the company still plans a phase two expansion of the property, Fertitta said yes and that it would most likely add gaming capacity and more entertainment options. However, breaking ground on such an expansion depends on the company’s finances at the time.

Last year, the Red Rock Resorts provided a first look at the latest renderings of the resort's interior. Company president Scott Kreeger had noted that the new resort would use several design elements from the company’s signature Red Rock Resort in Summerlin. The property had also shared various renderings of the venue. 

“We bent a lot of rules in what was traditionally viewed as a gaming property and I know that was met with great success,” Kreeger said in an interview to Las Vegas Review-Journal at the time . “So I think the types of things you saw with Red Rock you’re going to see at the next level with Durango.”
