The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Isaiah Rodgers on Monday. However, given his prior suspension for the NFL's gambling policy violations, he cannot play this season. Rodgers can apply for reinstatement after the 2023 season.

Rodgers was suspended on June 29 for at least the 2023 season for violating the NFL’s gambling policy and released by the Colts shortly after. Sources familiar with the activity on the online sportsbook account used by Rodgers told ESPN that upward of 100 bets were placed, including at least one wager on a game involving the Colts.

A source told ESPN that friends of Rodgers, who were in Florida, encouraged him to place many of the wagers, the majority of which were in the $25-$50 range. Legal sports betting was not available in Florida this past football season. One of Rodgers' bets included a $1,000 prop bet on the Over/Under rushing yards for a Colts running back.

The Eagles placed Rodgers on the Reserve/Suspended list, which means that he will not be with the team over the next year and will not be paid. He will not count against the Eagles’ adjusted 2023 salary cap figure of about $234.7 million, and he doesn’t count against the 53-man roster.

The NFL investigation into the gambling violations did not find evidence of any game manipulation, a league source told the cited source. Rodgers had acknowledged his situation on social media in June, saying he takes "full responsibility" for his actions.

In three seasons with the Colts, Rodgers played in 45 games, starting 10. He had three interceptions in 2021 and four fumble recoveries last year. He also had a 101-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as a rookie in 2020.

Rodgers’ Pro Football Focus grade of 82.1 was tied for 5th-highest among 82 cornerbacks who played at least 250 snaps last year. His 81.5 coverage grade was the 6th-highest, and his 75.5-run defense grade was the 20th highest. Rodgers played college football at UMass, where he was a teammate of current Eagles offensive lineman Jack Driscoll in 2016 and 2017 before Driscoll transferred to Auburn.
