The Malta Gaming Authority has unveiled a new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative. As a part of its ongoing efforts to champion sustainability, the Authority announced a commitment whereby one tree is planted for every new employee who joins the MGA.

Kicking off this project, the MGA recently planted 17 trees, a mixture of the indigenous Tamarisk and Chaste trees, at the Marsaskala Nature Trust Reserve. This area is currently undergoing several conservation projects.

17 MGA employees, who joined the Authority over the year 2023, planted the saplings and learned more about conservation, what needs to be done when planting a tree, and the after-care that Nature Trust will carry out to ensure that these trees continue to grow, the company explained in a press release.

Christopher Formosa, Deputy CEO and COO, said: "This initiative aligns perfectly with the MGA’s dedication to fostering a more sustainable future. By planting a tree in the name of our new joiners, we aim not only to signify the beginning of their journey with us but also to symbolize the professional growth and development we anticipate for both them and our organization."

Last month, the company announced that it will be hosting the Annual Conference of the Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) in Malta this year. Taking place on May 20 - 22, the event is set to bring together over 90 representatives from 35 member states to engage in insightful discussions, exchange expertise, and cooperate on emerging trends and challenges within the gaming sector.
