Fanatics Betting and Gaming has expanded its reach in the US by launching its sportsbook product in New York yesterday, marking its entry into the nation's largest betting market. The launch coincides with the company's recent expansions into Michigan and Indiana, bringing the total number of states where Fanatics Sportsbook operates to 15.
The move follows Fanatics' acquisition of the US businesses of PointsBet in August 2023, kickstarting its expansion into the American sports betting landscape. As part of this acquisition, Fanatics has been migrating PointsBet customers in several states to the Fanatics Sportsbook app, eyeing a smooth transition for existing users.
Each PointsBet customer’s username, password, account balance, rewards points and responsible gaming settings will be migrated automatically, the operator said. The Fanatics Sportsbook is now available on both iOS and Android.
The move also comes as Fanatics eyes entry into North Carolina's nascent sports betting market, to launch on March 11. As part of that plan, Fanatics has inked a partnership agreement with the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes.
Under this long-term agreement, Fanatics becomes the official Sports Betting Partner of the Carolina Hurricanes, providing the company with market access for its online sports betting platform. This partnership also positions Fanatics Sportsbook for potential retail sportsbook opportunities at the PNC Arena.
Entry into New York's sports betting landscape makes it a major expansion for Fanatics. The Empire State contributes more than 37% of the total tax revenue generated from sports betting in the United States, according to a recent study.
