MGM Resorts International has announced the appointment of Niklas Rytterstrom as the president and chief operating officer of Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. Rytterstrom, a seasoned executive with a long tenure at MGM, will oversee the casino's daily operations and strategic direction, focusing on enhancing employee engagement, guest service, and community relations.
The appointment comes as Travis Lunn, the former president and COO of Borgata, recently announced his return to Las Vegas to assume similar roles at Mandalay Bay and Luxor, both also owned by MGM Resorts.
“Nik has a long history with MGM Resorts and brings a wealth of operational experience and industry knowledge to the property and Atlantic City,” said Steve Zanella, president of MGM Resorts operations. “Nik’s strong leadership skills and strategic vision will continue to differentiate Borgata in a competitive landscape and enhance its position as a market leader.”
Rytterstrom's career with MGM Resorts dates back to 1999 when he started as an assistant hotel manager at Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. His most recent role was as the general manager of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, where he played a crucial role in facilitating a smooth transition during MGM Resorts' acquisition in 2022. Additionally, Rytterstrom has served in leadership positions at iconic Las Vegas properties such as The Mirage, Excalibur, and Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Before those stints, Rytterstrom served as the general manager of Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, where his strategic initiatives contributed to the property achieving its highest market share for three consecutive years, according to MGM Resorts.
“I’m honored to be embarking on this new journey at Borgata,” Rytterstrom said. “This property is an integral part of the Atlantic City community, and I can’t wait to jump in and continue to help drive growth and success throughout not just this amazing city but New Jersey and surrounding regions.
Rytterstrom holds a bachelor's degree in hotel administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his industry contributions were recently recognized when he was named one of the "Top 25 People to Watch in 2024" by Global Gaming Business Magazine.
