Colombian gaming authority proposes LatAm regulators association to unify criteria across the region

During the academic day of GAT Expo Cartagena, which took place on Tuesday 9, the president of Coljuegos, Marco Emilio Hincapié, proposed the creation of an international commission in charge of jointly building different regulations of games of chance in Latin America.

Hincapie's initiative was presented as part of the lecture 'Where are the games of chance in Latin America heading?', which opened the academic agenda of GAT Expo.

"We have proposed to form a group of regulators of the continent to unify criteria regarding the updating of regulations, and to know the deficiencies of some countries that do not have the constitutional support, as we have in Colombia, to exercise the monopoly of the games of chance," he explained.

In his presentation at GAT Expo 2024, the head of the Colombian gaming authority also presented the entity's results in its fight against the black market. "We want to integrate ourselves to increase transfers to health services. Today we are presenting to delegates from several Latin American countries our experience in terms of regulation at the national level. Coljuegos is an international example both in terms of regulations and resources obtained, since in 2023 alone we achieved close to COP 1.4 trillion ($365.8 million) in transfers for health services," he detailed.

Likewise, Hincapié mentioned the need to advance legislation at the Latin American level to regulate virtual games, cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence applied to betting, blockchain technology, and virtual reality.

This new edition of GAT Expo Cartagena, which ran through April 11 at the Las Américas Convention Center, also included the participation of Juan Carlos Restrepo, president of Asojuegos; Evert Montero, representative of Fecoljuegos; Elizabeth Maya Cano, president of Cornazar; and Luz Estella Correa, representative of Fedelco.

Likewise, GAT Expo 2024 had among its international guests Antonio Lara, director of AIEJA Affiliation; David Moniz, president of the Dominican Casino Association; Carlos Augusto Liseras, president of Conajzar; and Fernando Calderón, president of the Peruvian Gaming Association, among others.

In addition to the exhibition, during the three days of the event, several panels addressed topics related to artificial intelligence in gaming, eSports, trends in regulation and market, sustainable gaming, and the challenges of empowerment and gender equity in the industry.
