Macau's VIP baccarat revenue reached MOP14.378 billion ($1.79 billion) in the first quarter of 2024, accounting for 25 percent of the total gross gaming revenue (GGR).

The figures represent a notable 13 percent increase compared to the previous quarter and a substantial 68 percent jump on a year-on-year basis, Macau Business reported.

Citing data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the report said Macau's casinos collectively generated MOP57.326 billion ($7.1 billion) in GGR in the first three months of 2024. This marks a 6 percent expansion over the previous three-month period and the revenue accounts for 75 percent of the GGR levels recorded in pre-pandemic 2019.

Revenue from the mass-market baccarat segment amounted to MOP34.589 billion ($4.3 billion), while slot machines contributed MOP3.218 billion ($400 million) to the overall GGR.

The DICJ reported that Macau had 6,000 gaming tables and 12,000 slot machines in operation during the first quarter of 2024.

In 2019, before the pandemic, VIP baccarat revenue in Macau reached MOP135 billion ($17.7 billion), representing 46 percent of the full-year GGR earned by local casinos. At its peak in 2013, the city's VIP baccarat sector saw full-year revenue of MOP238 billion ($17.7 billion), accounting for two-thirds of that year's record-breaking tally.
