The Rumbao Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Viejo San Juan will add a casino to its entertainment offer. The investment was confirmed by executives of Driftwood Capital, the company that owns the establishment located in the historic area of the city.
It is estimated that an investment of $12 million will be required for the construction of the gaming hall, which will be located on the first level of the Paseo Portuario building, which the Miami-based firm acquired in 2021 for $21.7 million.
Specifically, it was specified that the casino would occupy the former premises of the defunct Latin Roots establishment. The construction, which has already begun, will last about 12 months.
"We are going to make a connection between the hotel and the building. We have agreed with the Orenes Group, which is one of the strongest groups in Spain operating casinos, because, as they say, 'shoes are made to fit'," said Carlos Rodriguez, Chief Executive Officer of Driftwood Capital.
Driftwood Capital had already invested another $15 million in 2023 for the remodeling of 245 rooms at the hotel.
"This casino will be the only one in Old San Juan, which interests me a lot because it differentiates us from other hotels. We don't want people to have to go to Condado or elsewhere to look for a casino. We are going to have it here and it will be connected to the hotel," Rodriguez added.
