The World Poker Tour (WPT) Macau debut event has been canceled. The company did not provide any reason for the cancellation of the poker event, which was originally set for June 18th - 24th.
WPT’s Macau edition was going to feature a HK$40,000 ($5,120) buy-in Championship event, with a special WPT High Roller event with a buy-in of HK$200,000 ($25,600) from June 19th to 20th. Announced in mid-March, the event was going to be organized in partnership with Wynn Macau and Allied Gaming and Entertainment (AGAE).
Kevin Mathers, Poker Information Manager at the Global Poker Index, shared a communication screenshot from the WPT on X which read:
“WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June, will not move forward. WPT, Wynn Macau, and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment for players from around the world who were planning to travel to Macau and play in the event.
"WPT remains committed to working with Wynn Macau and AGAE in the future to bring world-class poker tournaments back to the region.”

The cancellation comes weeks after the WPT also canceled its WPT Passport special series scheduled to take place in Hanoi, Vietnam in mid-May due to alleged approval issues.
Earlier in March, announcing Macau’s debut WPT edition, WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a press release stated: “Macau has long been a sought-after destination for us, wanting to deliver the WPT experience to the region. We look forward to an incredible event.”
Linda Chen, President of Wynn Macau, also said in the same release: “We are thrilled to partner with World Poker Tour to host one of the most prestigious global poker competitions in Macau, marking its debut in this vibrant city.
"This exciting mega-event further demonstrates our commitment to deliver top-tier international entertainment events to Macau and is set to captivate a new wave of global visitors eager to experience the dynamism of our city."
