The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) has expressed support for Governor Phil Murphy's initiative to address problem gambling through the formation of the Responsible Gaming Task Force.

In a statement, CANJ praised the Governor's leadership, emphasizing their readiness to collaborate with the Murphy Administration.

"The Atlantic City casino industry applauds New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy for his leadership in addressing the issue of problem gambling in New Jersey through the formation of the Responsible Gaming Task Force," the statement reads. "We are ready to work in partnership with the Murphy Administration to promote the well-being of our customers and the broader community in this effort."

CANJ outlined several measures currently in place within the industry to promote responsible gambling. These include supporting the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, promoting the 800-GAMBLER hotline to increase public awareness, and administering responsible gaming programs that include restrictions and cooling-off periods for individuals showing signs of problem gambling.

The association also highlighted the importance of employee training to recognize the signs of problem gambling and ensuring that their advertising and marketing efforts align with their commitment to responsible gambling.

Furthermore, CANJ stressed the need for collective action to keep unregulated and unlicensed actors out of the marketplace.

"CANJ believes the casino industry and stakeholders must collectively work together to keep unregulated and unlicensed actors out of the marketplace that do not offer protections or promote messaging that safeguards its users. We look forward to working with the Task Force to make real progress on this issue for the people of New Jersey."
