Pennsylvania's Parx Casino has purchased The Inn at Fox Chase, an existing hotel in Bensalem, which it plans to renovate and reopen in 2025. This move leaves questions unanswered regarding the previously approved plans for a luxury hotel on the casino complex property.

Parx's parent company, Greenwood Racing Inc., announced the acquisition Tuesday. The hotel is located at 3327 Street Road, slightly more than half a mile from the casino and racetrack complex, also on Street Road. The sale price was not disclosed, but Bucks County property records indicate that IHM Bensalem LLC purchased the 4.7-acre property last June for $13.75 million.

The 167-room hotel will undergo extensive renovations over the next six to 12 months, including updates to guest rooms and public areas and transforming the top floor into 16 new suites, according to a Parx press release. The hotel will be rebranded after renovations, although the new name has not been announced.

The Inn at Fox Chase will remain open during the renovation, honoring all current reservations and group bookings. Existing employees will have the opportunity to stay on under the new ownership.

Parx Casino had previously announced plans to build a 13-story luxury hotel on its complex property, featuring 300 rooms, a 14,000-square-foot banquet hall, a day spa, and a rooftop restaurant, with an opening set for 2025. However, these plans have not progressed beyond the approval stage, and no recent updates have been provided to township officials.

Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo noted that while Greenwood Racing still intends to build the original hotel on the casino grounds, the purchase of The Inn at Fox Chase serves as an interim solution.

DiGirolamo also mentioned that Greenwood Racing would need to submit renovation plans for The Inn at Fox Chase, which will be reviewed by the township's professional staff. Council approval is not necessary for these renovations.

In recent years, Parx Casino has expanded its offerings, including the addition of the Xcite Center, a 30,000-square-foot entertainment venue hosting music, comedy acts, and more.

"For several years, we have been exploring adding a hotel to the Parx complex as we continue to broaden the appeal and geographic reach of the Parx Casino brand," said Eric Hausler, CEO of Greenwood Racing. "We welcome the Inn at Fox Chase employees to the Parx family and look forward to creating a first-class leisure experience for our guests over the coming months."

Greenwood Racing said it plans to work closely with the local community, guests, and staff to ensure a smooth transition. Further details about the renovation and rebranding will be shared in the coming months, it added.
