The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) Gaming Commission has been recognized with the 2024 Excellence in Gaming Team Award by the North American Gaming Regulators Association (NAGRA). The award ceremony took place during the NAGRA Annual Education and Training Conference’s closing event, hosted aboard the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Excellence in Gaming Team Award celebrates regulatory bodies that have demonstrated contributions to gaming regulation and enforcement, according to the awards' program. The NHBP Gaming Commission received this accolade in acknowledgment of its achievements to gaming regulation.

Jacob Sheber, NHBP Gaming Commission Investigations Manager, expressed gratitude for the recognition: “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. I am incredibly proud to work alongside such talented and committed individuals. We are grateful to NAGRA for acknowledging our efforts.”

Established in 1984, NAGRA serves as a forum for regulatory agencies across North America to exchange knowledge and best practices in gaming regulation. The association provides ongoing education and training for its members, establishing standards for gaming legislation, and advocating on legislative matters affecting the industry.

The NHBP Gaming Commission has launched various initiatives aimed at enhancing regulatory standards within the gaming sector. Key accomplishments include the implementation of comprehensive regulations covering licensing, audit procedures, investigations, IT security, hearings, exclusions, and enforcement practices. The commission has maintained transparency in its operations by conducting town hall meetings and ensuring public accessibility to regulatory updates.

In addition to regulatory excellence, the NHBP Gaming Commission has sought to prioritize cybersecurity through IT initiatives, safeguarding gaming operations and protecting stakeholders’ interests.

The commission’s approach to industry engagement was further underscored by its recent Gaming Commission Symposium. This event facilitated collaboration within the gaming community, emphasizing cultural preservation and promoting responsible gaming practices. Moreover, the NHBP Gaming Commission has actively participated in community initiatives.
