UK Gross Gambling Yield up 12% in the first quarter of FY24-25, Gambling Commission reports

The Gambling Commission has released new data covering the gambling industry in Great Britain from March 2020 to June 2024. This data includes information from both online and in-person gambling covering Licensed Betting Operators (LBOs) located on Britain’s high streets.

The recent report compares the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year 2024-2025 with the same period in 2023-2024, providing insights into how the market has evolved over the past year.

The latest figures indicate that the online total Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) for Q1 (April to June) was £1.46 billion ($1.87 billion), marking a 12 percent increase from the previous year’s Q1. The total number of bets and spins saw an 11 percent year-on-year (YoY) rise, reaching a new peak for the second consecutive quarter at 24.5 billion. Additionally, the average number of monthly active accounts increased by 9 percent.

Real event betting GGY grew by 16 percent YoY to £625 million. Despite a 7 percent decrease in the number of bets, the average number of monthly active accounts for Q1 rose by 11 percent. The occurrence of major sporting events, such as the UEFA Euro 2024, significantly contributed to this increase.

The GGY for slots rose by 10 percent to £642 million ($802.24 million) YoY. The number of spins jumped by 12 percent to 22.4 billion, and the average monthly active accounts in Q1 increased by 11 percent to 4.4 million. These figures represent a peak in GGY, spins, and average monthly active accounts for the slots vertical within this dataset.

The number of online slots sessions lasting longer than an hour increased by 8 percent YoY to 9.6 million. The average session length remained steady at 17 minutes, with approximately 6 percent of all sessions extending beyond one hour, the lowest percentage recorded in the dataset.

LBO GGY experienced a slight decline of 1 percent, totaling £582 million ($747 million) in Q1 2024-2025 compared to the same quarter the previous year. The number of total bets and spins also decreased by 1 percent, amounting to 3.2 billion.
